What is the Equal Sign?
The equal sign (=) is a very important symbol in math! It tells us that both sides are the same.
When we see the equal sign, it means whatever is on the left side has the same value as whatever is on the right side.
Think of the equal sign like a balance scale - both sides must be equal!
The equal sign helps us understand that:
- Both sides have the same amount
- Both sides are balanced
- We can write numbers in different ways
- Math expressions can show the same value
