Ten Frames for Subtraction

We can use ten frames to help us visualize subtraction. When we subtract, we start with a number and "take away" or remove some counters to find the difference.

Ten frames help us with subtraction by:

  • Showing what we start with (the original number)
  • Visualizing what we take away (removed counters)
  • Seeing what's left (the answer)
