What is a Proportional Relationship?

A proportional relationship exists between two quantities when they maintain a constant ratio. In other words, as one quantity changes, the other changes at a consistent rate.

Two quantities are proportional if their ratio stays the same, no matter which values you compare.

Examples include the relationship between distance and time at constant speed, or the cost of items when each item has the same price.
